Liminal Space

Ashley Stecenko: Half Way Home   

April 25 – May 6, 2021

Half Way Home is an exhibition featuring image-transfer drawings on fabric. Through a solvent-based transferring process, Stecenko uses drawing techniques to move the ink from the surface of photographs onto a translucent fabric. Working on both sides of the material, Stecenko has hung the unstretched piece in the middle of Blind Alley's drive-by gallery. Halfway Home furthers Stecenko’s investigation of home as an analogy of her mental well-being. As she explains, “the configuration of these drawings defines a psychological atmosphere, interpreting the house as a body of images and an extension of self.”

Artist's bio:

Ashley Stecenko grew up in the Midwest. She received her BFA in Painting from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is currently a graduate student earning her MFA in Studio Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Stecenko’s work focuses on interests in family dynamics, displacement, and memory. Through a process of solvent-based image transfers, she removes the image from its original context in order to construct a psychological space– exploring the places where emotional states collide.

Liminal Space is a series of four independent exhibitions by TCU MFA students, graduating spring 2021.
